There is a punjabi quote which goes like :
"Jehri Mauj Chhaju De Chobare, Na Oh Balakh Na Bukhare"
It literally means - "East or West, Home is the best!". And that is something which I've experienced when visited Haveli Amritsar. Haveli invited me to attend the bloggers meet.
On arrival, we were greeted with chilled homemade Lassi in Earthenware Cup which broke my tiredness of driving 21 km from Amritsar city to the location. That was the taste which I expect whenever I had a desire for Lassi.
I introduced myself to the other members who were there to attend this bloggers meet. We have shared our past experiences with food and traveling. I must say that the people I met there were so humble and nice. All this was happening under this beautiful roof which is designed to give you a feel of typical Punjabi Dhaba. Take a look at these pictures below :
we continued our conversations till other members were arrived at the location.
After the arrival of everyone, the fun activities started. Ashmeen, who was one of the organizers of this bloggers meet told us about the history and mission of the Haveli group. She is one of the most humble and nice person I have came across.
Haveli has this old school punjabi village environment in which you can experience most of the things that were experienced by our parents and grandparents at their time. In my life, I have never tried making pots and diyas with clay, but Haveli made me do that, and I am telling you that it was so hard yet relaxing to put your hands in clay and make whatever shape you want.
Here I am in the picture above celebrating after making my first Diya after many fail attempts.
Here are some of the images during this process :
After that we watched a movie in this old school little theater. It is more of scrolling images of Punjabi women doing their daily chores. Take a look at this vintage stuff :
Then we went to a small musical group who were singing the old Punjabi folk songs sitting in this room where the images of old Punjabi singers were hanging on the wall. Listening to the words made me think and understand the essence of Punjab and its rich and pure culture. Here is an image of that lovely group.
Stepping outside that room, were came across a group of entertainers who call themselves "Pand" performing a comedy skit with some musical parts. I extremely enjoyed the performance.
After that, there was a magic show. Not an ordinary magic show, just a man sitting on floor. We went to him and he started his tricks. All the people were shocked to see how he was doing that. Making several coins from one coin, creating a pigeon in his empty basket and then increasing its number to three, we were so fascinated by this.
Then we went to this street which is an exact replica of a village street having the houses of Sarpanch (head of village), doctor's clinic, school, post office, etc. Even there was a trained astronomer to whom you can ask whatever you want to know about your future.
And then there was this photo-shoot area where you can click these super random images by holding these super random quotes.
After this full on enjoyment, we went to have our Haveli special lunch.
Lunch started with these mouth watering Punjabi appetizers. Take a look :
our starter |
Chat Papri |
Laddu Krare |
Lassi : It was Splendid. I loved its every sip. 10/10 Highly Recommended!
Laddu Krare : Use to eat a lot during my childhood. These are the ones which I generally take without chutney. It was provided to me with chutney on top, but was so delicious that I cannot resist taking another bite. Recommended!
Gol Gappe (Pani Puri?) : Not a big fan but it is something which I can't resist if present in-front of me. It was good. The pani (liquid) is very good. Recommended!
Chat Papri : Loved its so much. So refreshing, so crispy papdi, bhalla was good. Highly Recommended!
After this, we were served with our main course thalies. Here are they :
Haveli Special Thali |
Amritsari Special Thali |
Amritsari Kulcha |
Haveli Special Thali : It has all the items that is required in a thali. Loved how they presented the thali in-front of me. Shahi paneer was very delicious, mix veg was dominated by cauliflower but still tastes very good, daal was best, dahi was very fresh which has bhalla in it with little chutney. I loved the rice combined with daal and curd. Kheer was so good. Highly Recommended!
Amritsari Special Thali : Loved the presentation. Laccha prantha was very soft and full of layers, so good! All the items in this thali are Highly Recommended!
Amritsari Kulcha : I had kulcha several times before, but this one is a little different in a good way. so crispy, melts in mouth, amazing experience. Highly Recommended!
Our sweet Dish menu includes the following :
Kheer |
Custard |
Phirni |
Jalebi |
Gulab Jamun |
All of these were my favourites. The Gulab Jamun was so good, jalebies were so crispy and sweet, phirni was one of the best. every sweet dish is Highly Recommended.
My whole experience at Haveli is very positive. They truly provided you with an experience which they say. Haveli is true representation of Punjab's glorious past.
Haveli says "the food tastes good only when blended with culture", and yes! I have experienced that in Haveli - Amritsar.
...
Little recommendation : Going with the "thet punjabi" theme, I think Haveli should add some Manjies inside the dinning area so that people should experience the feel of eating food in punjabi Dhaba.
And great job sahil. I have experienced the aroma of Haweli in your words. 😊
